Kiley Gomez Aristotle Response Questions     1.) I believe that Aristotle would have had a positive response to Christy's painting because Aristotle enjoyed and believed in the idea of a strong government/ leadership therefore he would of liked the depiction of the men signing the  Constitution.     2.) In my opinion, there are four elements to this painting. There is, 1, the president standing on the podium, 2, the cabinets behind the president, 3, the congressman/senator in front of the president, and 4, the common people standing in the back.     3.) Aristotle would have assumed that the government being formed was a democracy because he believed in governments that had power but also shared power and decision making with the people. Democracy was Aristotle's preferred form of  government.     4.) The men who signed the constitution consisted of common men who were like normal people you would ...

Rousseau said that humans need a government that would allow space and creative expression to humanity's innate  need for freedom. I say that Rousseau would greatly approve of a direct democracy for the form of government. Rousseau said that civilizations were complexly unnatural and that they were created by an accidental mean of survival. I say that Rousseau would be content with a very low maintenance, down to earth government that gave most the say to the people in order to allow everyone to have a say. Similar to a direct democracy but very laid back. I say that Rousseau would not want to be told how to live by any ruler and would be greatly upset if rules were put in place that restricted what he felt fell under his idea of personal, innate freedom.      Machiavelli said that  “In general you must either pamper people or destroy them; harm them just a little and they’ll hit back; harm them seriously and they won’t be able to. So if you’...

Lao Tzu vs Machiavelli-- Kiley Gomez

Lao Tzu and Niccolo Machiavelli's views on government greatly differ. Lao Tzu's  government ideals were to minimize the power of given to the higher authorities and if one needed  something to be enforced then it would be done quietly and calmly. He believed that, in government, one  should follow the guidelines of the Tao-Te Ching. His ideals differ completely from those surrounding a  "materialist quest for power, authority, and wealth."  In high contradiction, Niccolo Machiavelli's believed that a government should make it a priority to secure  power by any and all means possible. Machiavelli thought it to be okay to do anything necessary in order  to achieve what a government or leader desires, even if that is achieved by a result of torture or  oppression.   Lao Tzu believed that the purpose of government was to allow the people to have great freedoms and fray  from taking control of others lives. On the othe...
