Rousseau said that humans need a government that would allow space and creative expression to humanity's innate need for freedom. I say that Rousseau would greatly approve of a direct democracy for the form of government. Rousseau said that civilizations were complexly unnatural and that they were created by an accidental mean of survival. I say that Rousseau would be content with a very low maintenance, down to earth government that gave most the say to the people in order to allow everyone to have a say. Similar to a direct democracy but very laid back. I say that Rousseau would not want to be told how to live by any ruler and would be greatly upset if rules were put in place that restricted what he felt fell under his idea of personal, innate freedom.
Machiavelli said that “In general you must either pamper people or destroy them; harm them just a little and they’ll hit back; harm them seriously and they won’t be able to. So if you’re going to do people harm, make sure you needn’t worry about their reaction.”I say that Machiavelli's declaration implies that to rebel is to do what you believe is right. I say that Machiavelli thought rebellion was good but if one was going to rebel then they needed to hit the person they are rebelling against hard or else it will be done for nothing and no good will come from it. I do not feel confident that the end of independence can justify the means rebellion involving war, civil disorder, injustice, and death. I say that the ends Jefferson had in his mind did justify the means stated but I do not think it is necessarily right. I regard Machiavelli's advise as affective in government but takes away peoples natural justices and freedom. I think that a good ruler should think about all of their people instead of acting upon something that could hurt many just to get his point across.
